Description
A wide bell of rattan thread, woven so finely it looks almost like gauze, finished with a scalloped edge that ripples all the way around. The top pinches into a point, like the peak of a canopy. Even at its largest, the shade looks light in the air.
The Taormina scalloped rattan pendant light is named after the Sicilian hilltown perched above the sea, whose ancient theater frames Mount Etna between its arches.
Turn it on and the fine mesh lets light through almost everywhere: the shade itself glows and becomes a volume of light rather than a screen. The scallops draw a wavy frieze along the walls. The warm glow spreads evenly through the room, and the bell stays the brightest, softest thing in it.
A large scalloped rattan bell pendant in two sizes and two colors
Two diameters, 16" and 24" (40 and 60 cm). The 16" covers a round table or a reading corner, and two or three in a row suit a kitchen island. The 24" is a centerpiece made for a dining table, an island or an entryway with a high ceiling. Two finishes: natural, which plays up the pale fiber and its softness, or black, which turns the mesh into graphic lace.

A handwoven rattan pendant light for rooms you want to dress up
Rattan thread, woven by hand over a frame, makes an airy material that never looks heavy, even in the large size. This pendant sits well with washed linen, raw wood, travertine and limewashed walls. It is the most detailed piece in the collection, and the time spent weaving shows in every scallop. In a bedroom, the glowing bell gives a gentle light for winding down.
Each bell is woven by hand, so the line of the scallops differs from one piece to the next.

Hanging height & installation
Over a dining table, leave 30 to 34 inches between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade. Over a kitchen island, 30 to 36 inches. With nothing below, keep at least 7 feet of clearance.
The light connects to a standard ceiling junction box like any fixture. If you are not comfortable with wiring, a licensed electrician will install it quickly.

The material
Rattan, woven strip by strip
Rattan is the stem of a climbing palm. Split into thin strips and woven, it lets the light through in small points and draws the weave across your walls.
- Origin
- Stem of a climbing palm, dried and split into strips
- Light
- Filtered: small points of light and woven shadows
- Care
- Dust with a soft, dry brush. Keep away from steam.

7 ft+
7 ft+
20-24"
60-66"
The height decides everything. Hang a pendant too high and it behaves like a ceiling light. Bring it down to the right height and it gathers people around the table, frames the bed and gives a kitchen its rhythm. Pick where yours will hang.
30 to 34"
Between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade. Low enough to feel intimate, high enough to see across the table.
30 to 36"
Above the countertop. In a row of two or three, leave 24 to 30 inches between shades.
7 ft +
From the floor to the bottom of the shade when nothing sits below. Over a coffee table, you can come lower.
7 ft +
From the floor, for a central light. A wide, soft shade keeps the light gentle at night.
20 to 24"
Above the nightstand. It replaces a table lamp and frees up the surface.
60 to 66"
From the floor, one on each side of the mirror, around eye level.
Questions
Before you order
Anything else about this light, write to us. We reply within one business day.
How do I choose the right size?
Over a dining table, pick a shade about half to two thirds the width of the table. Over an island, two or three smaller shades usually look better than one large one. Send us your measurements and we will tell you which size fits.
Is the bulb included?
No, so you can choose your own warmth. Most designs take a standard medium base E26 bulb; the socket is listed under Materials & dimensions. A warm white LED around 2700 K brings out the weave and the stone.
Will it work with US wiring?
Yes. It is wired for 110-120 V, the US standard, and connects to a regular ceiling junction box.
Can I mix designs in a pair or a trio?
Yes. Choose Pair or Trio, then add any designs and sizes you like: the discount counts every light in your cart.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Very close, not identical. Rattan, rope and stone are natural materials, so the weave, the veins and the tone vary slightly from one piece to the next.
