The silhouette of a wide straw hat caught in the air: broad, asymmetric, its rim rippling as if lifted by a gust. The fine rattan weave runs from a central cone out to a flat, flaring brim that bends slightly on one side. Tight and blond near the top, the weave opens up toward the edges. A small light wood cap joins the shade to the cord.

The Meltemi woven rattan pendant light is named after the dry summer wind that sweeps the Aegean Sea from June to September, the same breeze that shaped life on the Greek islands, from shaded terraces to wide straw hats.

Once lit, the light starts at the central cone and slides out toward the brim, softer as it moves away from the bulb. The fiber turns a warm honey tone, brightest at the top, more veiled on the brim. Because the shape is uneven, one side of the ceiling catches more light than the other. It brings a sense of movement to the room, like a hat frozen in flight.

Over a dining table, leave 30 to 34 inches between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade. Over a kitchen island, 30 to 36 inches. With nothing below, keep at least 7 feet of clearance.

The light connects to a standard ceiling junction box like any fixture. If you are not comfortable with wiring, a licensed electrician will install it quickly.
